Timperley Villa match updates 9th & 10th November 2019

Updated: Nov 12, 2019

Some great games this week. All our teams who played matches wore the poppies in remembrance and had a two minutes silence before each game.

Some games were rained off over the weekend but here are some of the match reports

Timperley Villa U15 Lightning v Sale Communities Eagles

The U15 Lightning were back in action in the League for the first time since mid-September. Surprisingly the pitch was in good shape , but the boys made heavy weather of the first twenty minutes.

A lack of match practice was apparent as they toiled to keep possession and gave away cheap balls in the middle of the park.

Sale Communities struck first with a well-taken goal before Owen levelled the scores on the quarter hour. Matt D then followed up his assist with a nicely crafted goal to nose Timperley into a slender lead.

The boys still weren't firing on all cylinders and within minutes it was back to "all-square" at 2-2.

The Lightning woke up with half an hour gone and two cracking goals in the last ten minutes of the first half (Harry and Ben L) dented Sale's hopes of staying in the game.

A much more dominant second half display had the Lightning seeing most of the ball and restricting Sale to defending deep in their own half.

Two further goals , including a great long-distance strike from Henry and a fantastic cross and volley finish from Harry to seal the victory, means the boys have maximum points from their first four games.

Timperley Villa Jets va Timperley FC

It was a local Timperley derby this weekend for the Jets down at Timperley Sports Club playing Timperley FC. The Jets got off to a flying start with an early goal and created a number of great chances to score more which just went wide or were saved. Despite this, TFC got back in the game and then took the lead. The boys responded well and it led to an entertaining game packed full of goals, including a last few minutes of goal scoring for both teams. Well played Jets!

Timperley Villa Pumas U17 vs Woodford JFC

The U17 Pumas travelled to Winsford to play Woodford JFC in the third round of the Cheshire Youth Cup last weekend.

The game didn’t start out in the way planned as two of the Pumas players went to the wrong ground thus a hasty rearrangement was needed for the starting eleven. Both teams had good chances to open the scoring and Woodford would have been ahead if it weren’t for their profligate shooting and heroics in nets from Tom W, as a result the game went into the halftime break at 0-0.

Alex opened the scoring very soon after the break to give the Pumas the lead. The second half saw the Pumas having the better of the play with plenty of chances to extend their lead, unfortunately they were unable to do so. With twenty minutes to go Woodford were reduced to 10 men with a straight red however the sides were soon evened up with an injury to Tom J who couldn’t be replaced since the Pumas had already made both their substitutions. After 80 minutes the Pumas were punished with a cross being headed into his own net by James F evening up the scores. The final 10 minutes saw plenty of spaces opening up as the players from both sides tired and Sam had two good chances to put the Pumas through, but the match finished 1-1 so the dreaded penalties loomed.

Penalties saw Woodford going first and despite Tom W getting his hand to two of the penalties he was unable to keep any of them out. The first four Pumas penalties were converted by Archie, Dan, Ben and James F so it was down to Alex to keep the Pumas in the tie. Sadly, the final penalty was saved meaning the Pumas run in the Cheshire Cup came to an end.

Timperley Villa Fc Wizards U11 vs Urmston Meds Barca

The U11 Wizards had a win in another really tight and high quality game with Urmston Meds Barca at Flixton HS

The quality on the pitch was far superior to the posing for the photo off it

Timperley Villa U14 Vixens vs Cheadle & Gatley

A great win 6-2 against Cheadle & Gatley in the cup. Good because we lost 4-0 to them a few weeks ago in the league

Timperley Villa U14 Tornados vs Sale United

Timperley Villa U9 Rapids vs Broadheath U9 Spartak

Another fantastic performance by the U9 Rapids on Saturday against Broadheath Spartak, a very close enjoyable game for both teams. All of the boys played their part in the performance with some excellent attacking plays. Big congratulations to Sam for scoring a hat trick and shout out to George again for making some great saves in goal.

Timperley Villa Minotaurs vs Egerton Tatton U12's (Cup game)

Despite putting in a battling performance the boys lost 7-5 to a determined Egerton Tatton team on Sunday.

It's a game that could have gone either way and we certainly couldn't fault the effort of all the boys who were determined to start the cup competition well.

Sadly, it wasn't to be and just a little bit of naive play in the wrong parts of the pitch cost us.

It was a very exciting game to watch and as ever we did have some highlights.

Lucas banged in a first half hat trick and kept getting into good goal scoring opportunities all through the game AND he never gave up.

Louis L gave us a great 10 minute cameo when he set up two goals immediately after coming on.

The man of the match laurels however were shared between Fin (what a 2nd goal) and Jay who must have covered every blade of grass.

We're not out of the cup just yet so lets see how we do against Timperley next weekend.
