An Explanation for Sunday
Dear Barracudas Parents
I am sorry for the fact that we didn't play the game scheduled for the 15th
April. The reason is that, in its wisdom, Timperley & District Junior football
League has suspended me as a manager until the end of the season.
The background to this incident is the game against Irlam where one of their
managers acted as referee for the game. After the game finished (and our team
talk about swearing) Cameron burst into tears and claimed the referee had used
the F word to him during the game.
As the rest of the kids had departed I approached the Irlam management &
requested an apology. Their immediate reaction was "it would be your F*****
kid". Mark had to get a key from me and caught the bulk of the exchange.
The referee reported me to the Cheshire FA (despite Mark's requests to Irlam)
and at my hearing there was no evidence that I used bad language or acted
aggressively. I was technically guilty of approaching the ref and fined £25.
Timperley league have a policy of placing all managers etc who are sanctioned at
County FA level before the AGM and the member vote to ban them for the following
season. My name will be forwarded as routine. However, despite hearing or
considering absolutely no evidence, the League has taken the additional step of
banning me for the remainder of this season. I am led to believe this is not
normal and is justified by them because they are determined to eliminate adults
"infringing the pitch" (I didn't) and to cut out foul language (again I didn't)
and cut out aggressive behaviour (again I didn't).
The consequence of their action is to restrict kids playing football. We will be
fined and have points deducted for not fulfilling the fixture yesterday. We have
one more game to play that Mark can be manager for. In the meantime I am sorry
for the fact your kids are restricted by the petty bureaucracy of our League.
