25 Years and Still Kicking
The
“25 Years and Still Kicking”
initiative as I am sure you can guess was started in celebration of the
clubs 25th year anniversary.
We as
a club not only wanted to raise our profile within the local community
but really wanted to offer the opportunity
for more kids and volunteers to become involved with our club.
Therefore this initiative had the following aims:
-
Get more Kids
involved in sport and become more active
-
Tackle the
issues facing our youth today i.e. childhood obesity, increasing
youth crime, decreasing social skills etc
-
Getting the
community more involved with the youth of today.
-
Using sport to
promote cultural diversity and reduce discrimination
In order for us to
achieve our aims within this initiative but also to ensure the survival
for our club in the future we targeted our local MP and councilors
together with some big sporting personalities and clubs. We wanted to
gain their support not only of this initiative but in recognition of our
club and its history and the services that we bring to the community.
Although our
chairman was a little sceptical at the response we would get he was soon
to be eating humble pie. The response we received was far beyond our
expectations receiving letters from people like Sir Alex Ferguson and
Manchester United, Mr Graham Brady MP, Kick It Out Organization plus
many others. It was encouraging to learn that even people and
organizations of this size and stature still understand and appreciate
the importance of sporting clubs at the grass routes level and time and
commitment that is needed to the running of these clubs.
Through these
letters of support we are aiming to produce promotional literature that
we can use to encourage more participants and volunteers to become
involved with the club whilst trying to partner with local business’s to
raise funding to ensure that all our teams have the necessary equipment
and facilities in order to carry on our clubs proud tradition and ensure
its future survival.
